2021 is a very special year for BlueOrchard as we celebrate our 20th anniversary. Throughout 2021 we will be sharing with you some of the encouraging entrepreneurial stories, personal dreams, and insights into the lives of families around the globe who are struggling and fighting against adversity every single day. Our third story is about Elene Kiladze from Georgia.

Elene, can you explain why you decided to set up your own business?

My husband had been in the filming industry for more than 10 years – it’s something that he is very passionate about but is not always very reliable work which can be difficult financially.

Equally, I am a qualified doctor who was working in the public sector and not being paid very well – we decided that a second business would allow us to bring in more money and better support our family, and we had always dreamed of being entrepreneurs, so we decided to set up a small tailoring business on the side.

How is your business doing now?

Things have been going well. We make lots of different products but have particularly focused on areas of high demand – items like wedding dresses and school uniforms. We make uniforms for more than 20 local schools now, and more recently have been speaking to the Catholic church  in Italy about making robes for their priests to wear – maybe one day we will even make clothes for the Pope!
